Connecting your card reader

When you receive your Lopay card reader, you'll need to connect it to your Lopay account. To do this please follow the steps below:

  1. Ensure your phone bluetooth is turned on

  2. Open your Lopay app and select the 'My Devices' tile on the app home page.

  3. Select 'Connect my card reader'.

  4. Turn on your card reader. Select "M2 reader" when it appears in the app. Android users may also encounter a Bluetooth pairing request; please ensure to select Pair.

When the reader connects to your Lopay app, the status LEDs on top of the reader flash four times. After connecting, the first status light begins flashing at five second intervals.

Taking a payment via your card reader

Once successfully connected, open the Charge screen (2nd icon at the bottom) to take a payment. Enter an amount, press 'Charge', and select 'send to card reader' from the available payment method options.

Your customer can then tap, insert or swipe their card or utilize Apple Pay or Google Pay if enabled on their device.

Please wait for the 'payment successful' notification in the Lopay app before allowing your customer to leave, this ensures that the payment has completed successfully!

If you're primarily using your card reader, 'Send to card reader' will soon replace 'Charge' to streamline the payment process into a single step.

How do I update my card reader?

When you first connect your card reader it will likely require a firmware update. Firmware updates come from the manufacturer and will be required from time to time.

Firmware updates use a large amount of battery, so please ensure that the reader has at least 50% charge before initiating the process. Please also keep the app open during the update process.

If the update has stalled, please turn the card reader off and on and then reconnect it to restart the update.

Do I need to have a card reader to use Lopay?

No, card readers are just one way for your customers to pay. For more info on the ways to take payments with Lopay please click here.
